One And The Same

Liner notesThe maths music group had a prompt about weird infinite series. I'm a fan of the fact that 0.999... is exactly 1, and while that's not weird to mathematicians, it's weird enough for a song. One of my big goals as a maths songwriter is to write songs that are songs first and maths second -- so you can still enjoy them even if you don't get the full nerdy experience.

I used to wake with screams
From my recurring dreams
You had a natural air of authority
All I ever knew was inferiority
How far away equality seemed

You, you're there then you're gone
Me, I go on and on
We may not share a name
But you and me we're one and the same

How well I recall
I always used to feel small
You're so elegant, graceful and sleek
Minimalistic mystique
Now I see you're not unique at all

(I repeat myself, I repeat myself)
You, you're there then you're gone
Me, I go on and on
We may not share a name
But you and me we're one and the same

You're 100%
That we're no different
I didn't realise you never knew
You could go on forever, too
Go ahead, there's nothing preventing you

(I repeat myself, I repeat myself)
You, you're there then you're gone
Me, I go on and on
We may not share a name
But you and me we're one and the same
