Snapdragon Avenue
Liner notes
The songwriting circle prompt for the month was flowers, and I kind of came up blank -- until I came up with the cheat code of naming a fictional street after a flower with a nice rhythm. We were also supposed to step outside of our comfort zone; I did that in two ways, because I haven't got the faintest idea what's going on in the song, and because I stop playing guitar for the final chorus and sing over finger snaps. That's... not a thing I do.Police in those days
Didn't chase runaways
What happened to you back there
You weren't prepared to share
There was something you had to do
Do you think you could take me to
Snapdragon Avenue, Snapdragon Avenue
You had to do something, something that you had to do
Could you take me to Snapdragon Avenue
Leave the motor running, I'll be back in a few
Residential new builds
Red bricks, no frills
1990s urban sprawl
Dead pubs and shopping malls
Anywhere here will do
I'll be back in a few
Snapdragon Avenue, Snapdragon Avenue
You had to do something, something that you had to do
Could you take me to Snapdragon Avenue
Leave the motor running, I'll be back in a few
I spotted you the other day
Polite nod and you turned away
Good to see you looking well
Snapdragon in your lapel
Whatever you were going through
You did what you had to do, on
Snapdragon Avenue, Snapdragon Avenue
You had to do something, something that you had to do
Could you take me to Snapdragon Avenue
Leave the motor running, I'll be back in a few
Snapdragon Avenue, Snapdragon Avenue
You had to do something, something that you had to do
Could you take me to Snapdragon Avenue
Leave the motor running
Leave the motor running
Leave the motor running
